Welcome to the Homestead House (NOT to be confused with The Ranch House that has its own private tub), a true piece of Oregon Outback history. Built in 1916 and moved to this land by a team of oxen, this three-bedroom home has witnessed (and survived!) more than a century of life in the high desert.
A stay in the Homestead House feels a little like stepping back in time with simple comforts, creaking floors, weathered wood, and a deep sense of place. This old homestead is not a modern hotel. It is an authentic ranch home that is rustic and full of character.
Guests choose the Homestead because:
3 Bedrooms (2 queens, 1 full)
Full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator, coffee grinder, french press, electric kettle, cooking utensils, toaster, blender, teapot, pots and pans, cutlery, glassware, plateware, dining room table, and chairs
A full bathroom with shower (don’t worry, we added modern plumbing!)
Green-friendly cleaning products
Large oil heater
TV-free environment, enhancing the peacefulness of your stay
Viewing deck of Summer Lake to the north
24-hour access to the mineral pools a short walk or drive away
Set a bit farther from the rest of the property, the Homestead House offers a more private setting, complete with a spacious deck and yard offering a lovely bonus for guests traveling with dogs (or anyone who enjoys a little extra breathing room). The private outdoor space makes it easy to relax, spread out, and let your furry friends enjoy the high desert right alongside you.
We work continuously to keep the home comfortable, but guests should expect a rustic, historic stay rather than a sealed modern space. As with any home in the Oregon Outback, occasional encounters with spiders, mice, or other small desert creatures are simply part of life here. If you love authenticity, history, and the charm of a house with stories to tell, the Homestead House is a perfect fit.
She will bless you with sunrises that spill across the playa. She will shelter you from the harsh desert winds while you cook meals in the old ranch kitchen and listen to the wind sing through the desert offering a steady presence shaped by weather, time, and the many lives that have passed through her doors. The Homestead House invites you to slow down, spread out, and experience the high desert as generations before you once did...
Coffee, the Outback Way

Important Note About Bedding
To enhance our eco-conscious experience, guests must bring their own bedding, including sheets, pillows, blankets, and bath towels. We provide hand towels, kitchen/wash cloths, and a fitted sheet for each bed. Thank you for helping us minimize water and energy use in the Oregon Outback!
